Dubai Cares Operations Team Leaves for Cyclone Ravaged Myanmar

An operations team from Dubai Cares left for Myanmar today to establish 200 schools that will additionally function as child protection centers in the cyclone ravaged areas, following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

New Charity Arab Foundation for Social Charity Launched In UAE

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Arab Foundation for Social Charity last week.

Shaikh Mohammed made the announcement during a meeting with Arab leaders and personalities on the sidelines of the regional consultation on Arab philanthropy.

“The new foundation aims at stepping up coordination among Arab charity organizations in order to achieve the aspired results and increase their efforts for enabling the region to overcome the challenges it is currently facing,” he stated.

UNHCR Appeals For $261 Million For Iraqi Refugee Programs In 2008
January 8, 2008, UNHCR: GENEVA - The UN refugee agency is seeking $261 million this year for its operations on behalf of some of the 4 million people uprooted by the conflict in Iraq.

UNHCR's Iraq Situation Supplementary Appeal covers programs for many of the 2.2 million Iraqis displaced within Iraq, as well as the 2 million who have fled to other countries in the region, including Syria, Jordan, Iran, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey and several of the Gulf States. The agency also cares for some 41,000 non-Iraqi refugees in Iraq, including Palestinians, Iranians, Turks and others.

Isa Town Charity fair - a big success
Thousands of people attended the final day of The Indian School Fair in Isa Town. Popular Indian singers Mohammed Aslam and Preetha were the star attractions at the event while Labour Market Regulatory Authority Chief Executive Ali Radhi was the chief guest.

The fair was expected to raise more than BD 80,000 towards fee concession for needy children and enhancing facilities. Part of the money will go to the construction of a new building, a computer laboratory and audio-visual facilities in all classes, costing a combined BD1 million.
