Wal-Mart Ups Pledge for Earthquake Relief to More Than RMB 20 Million

Hearing firsthand from its customers and 5,500 associates affected by the recent China earthquakes, Wal-Mart has increased its pledge for relief to more than RMB 20 million (USD $3 million), to be used for community reconstruction. In the meantime, the company will vigorously explore the possibility of setting up a Wal-Mart foundation in China to help extend the company's long-term disaster relief efforts.

Wal-Mart Donates Over RMB 3 Million For Earthquake Relief in China

Wal-Mart announced today it is providing more than RMB 3 million (US $430,000) in disaster relief and reconstruction for the central part of China that has been affected by the worst earthquakes in more than 30 years. Monday's massive earthquake, with an aftershock registering at 7.8 on the Richter scale, caused significant loss of life and has left many others without homes and power.

Dubai Cares Operations Team Leaves for Cyclone Ravaged Myanmar

An operations team from Dubai Cares left for Myanmar today to establish 200 schools that will additionally function as child protection centers in the cyclone ravaged areas, following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
